CONOCE A CHRISTINA HERNÁNDEZ
Let me tell you a little bit about myself and why EllasLAtinas initiated. I am a first-generation Mexican-American Chicana. My parents immigrated from Zacatecas and settled in Southern California. I was born in Inglewood, CA and lived there for 10 years. Due to eminent domain, we were forced to move to Hawthorne, CA, which is where I currently reside. I am the youngest of four from a traditional Mexican family who loves paisa music, banda, norteñas and tamborazo! I am as Paisa as they come!!
After graduating from Lawndale High School, I moved to Los Angeles where I attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). This is when I learned about my passion for community involvement. I majored in Sociology and Chicana/o Studies and minored in Labor and Workplace Studies. Upon graduation, I worked a variety of jobs including sales, community engagement, and human resources. Through my job experience, I learned that I wanted to go back to school to get my Master's in Social Work in to combine my experience while assisting my community. I applied to both USC and UCLA, but ultimately returned to my Alma Mater-- and couldn't be happier!
On September 2015, I began to pursue my Master's in Social Work at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. I graduated in June of 2017 and am currently the Community Accompaniment Social Worker Coordinator at Freedom for Immigrants. My ultimate goal is to open and develop a non-profit organization of my own!
